Fall Porch Decorating Ideas

Make your porch fall-worthy with a perfect orange pumpkin.

While many people associate the porch with summer, it creates the ideal backdrop for warm and welcoming fall decor as well. Use natural items such as autumn leaves, pine cones and flowers as inspiration when designing a cozy fall porch. Use traditional and vintage pieces in interesting ways to create an eclectic, eye-catching space in which to host autumn gatherings. Does this Spark an idea?

Natural Wreath

Celebrate autumn's bounty by enhancing the porch door with a nature-inspired wreath. Buy or make a wreath constructed of golden wheat heads. Accent the wreath with stems of orange, gold and red fall leaves, as well as a few red berry sprigs. Tie an orange or gold ribbon into a bow at the bottom of the wreath as a decorative touch, or keep it simplistic. You can also place the wreath on a porch table and set a few pillar candles in the middle of it.

Pumpkin Vase

Transform a large, round pumpkin into an innovative flower vase or planter. Cut the top off of the pumpkin and scoop out the insides. Fill a clean soup can, plastic container or any other type of vessel with water and place it into the hollowed-out pumpkin. Arrange a harvest-inspired bouquet of bittersweet, fall leaf branches, orange and yellow roses, sunflowers and eucalyptus and set it inside the water-filled vessel. Place the pumpkin vase on porch steps to greet guests.

Country-Inspired Furnishings

Even if you live in the city, you can create a country-inspired autumn porch using natural elements. Choose comfortable porch furniture constructed of rustic wood, wrought iron or brown wicker. Enhance the love seat and chairs with decorative pillows featuring earthy tones of burnt orange, pomegranate red and gold. Drape warm woven throw blankets over the chairs to have on-hand during cool fall evenings. Set up a rough-hewn wood table to hold hot chocolate, apple cider and other fall beverages.
