Types & Designs Of Beds

We spent about one-third of our lives sleeping, so having a bed that suits your personality and lifestyle is more important than it initially seems. There are many types of beds perfect for all people, no matter what their age or lifestyle. Does this Spark an idea?

Ornate headboard on a bed

Sleigh Beds

The term "sleigh bed" refers to its ornate design--both the large head and footboards are curved outward, resembling a horse-drawn sleigh. Although American craftsmen adopted the design in the 19th century, antique and contemporary types can be found today.

Bunk Beds

Bunk beds are perfect for two people sharing a smaller bedroom. Two beds, usually with twin-sized mattresses, are held, one on top of the other, with support beams.

Futons

Popular in college dorm rooms, a futon is a bed that can also be used as a couch during the daytime. A futon usually has a wooden or metal frame and the pad is typically a bit thinner than an average mattress.

Murphy Beds

A Murphy bed is also called a "wall bed" because it can be folded up and away in a space in the wall or a closet to conserve room. This could be an ideal bed for someone with a very small studio apartment

Canopy Beds

A canopy or "four-poster" bed is a design that has a wooden or metal frame built above it. A canopy or veil hangs down from the frame, surrounding the mattress and giving the bed a luxurious feel.
