Start A Fencing Company

New Mexico provides abundant opportunities for starting a fence building company. There are many pitfalls and legalities to start up, but they can be accomplished with knowledge and fence building experience.

According to New Mexico law, a fence contractor must have a minimum of a GS-10 License. The GS-10 will allow you to manufacture and install any type of fence legally within the state of New Mexico.

Instructions

Obtain Your Contractor's License

1. Obtain the necessary license. The New Mexico GB-10 can be obtained through New Mexico Contractor's registration. The main requirement is to have at least two years experience to obtain your license, and a test is given to assure the State that you have adequate knowledge about installing fences. A portion of the test is about New Mexico taxes and employment issues.

2. Register with the New Mexico One Call organization. When you are preparing a site for installation of a fence, state law requires that you place a One Call to locate buried cables, pipelines, and other hazards.

3. Register with the New Mexico General Services Division. With over 22,000 miles of state maintained highways in New Mexico, the procurement division will assist you in locating upcoming projects where you can find lucrative jobs.
