Diy Outdoor Decor Accents

Create outdoor decor accents to compliment any home.

Decorating the outside of a home is often a creative and exciting way to amplify the entire decor of a house. Exterior design touches give the abode a cohesive look and feel and add visual interest to the design. It is fairly simple to create beautiful DIY outdoor accents such as topiaries, window boxes, bird baths, stepping stones, flower baskets and door wreaths. The addition of a few outdoor accessories adds a crowning touch to any style home and highlights its overall decorating scheme. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create topiary accents. Take four-foot tall faux potted topiaries and weave strands of battery-operated white lights into the greenery. Drape one or two silk flower garlands onto the faux plants in hues that compliment the outdoor home colors. Place one on either side of a brightly colored front door for a DIY home accent that amplifies the curb appeal of any style home.

2. Add a window box. Purchase a garden-store window box and fill it with potting soil. Plant a variety of annual flowers toward the back of the container and add draping vines near the front to give the outdoor home accent a full, lush look and feel. Hang the box under a front window as a way to add color and texture to the outdoor area of a home.

3. Make a birdbath. Turn a large terra cotta pot upside down. Apply a generous amount of silicone caulk on the top of the inverted pot and lay a pot saucer, turned right side up, on top. Add a few stones to the saucer to provide the birds a foothold. Fill the birdbath with water for a home decor accent that compliments any outdoor space.

4. Paint stepping stones. Take pre-made concrete stepping stones and paint them with outdoor decor paint that is weatherproof and waterproof. Be creative by including outdoor motifs, such as sunflowers, butterflies or ladybugs, for a functional and whimsical outdoor decor accent.

5. Hang flower baskets. Plant brightly hued flowers and trailing greenery in plastic hanging basket containers and hang them in open porch areas or from wrought iron shepherd hooks as a way to highlight the overall outdoor visual appearance of a home.

6. Make a wreath. Hot glue dried green moss on the front of a grapevine wreath. Cut the blooms off of several silk flower stalks. Apply the blooms with hot glue in a random fashion on top of the moss until the wreath is full with flowers. Hang the floral DIY home decor piece on the outside of a front door as a welcoming accessory to the exterior of the home.
