Artificial Flowers For A Window Box

Flowers in window boxes give charm and appeal to your home.

Artificial flowers have improved over the years and now are frequently incorporated into landscapes and containers, including window boxes, without detection. Outdoor artificial flowers and plants have been developed to resemble their living counterpart so realistically it becomes difficult to distinguish between artificial and live without close examination. Additionally, outdoor artificial flowers are now made to withstand the various climate conditions, with the flower material including a special UV protection to eliminate, or minimize, fading from the sun. Does this Spark an idea?

Seasonal

Using artificial flowers in your window box allows you to easily, and inexpensively, change the theme of your flower display to reflect the season without having the expense of purchasing live blooming flowers or waiting for your plants to finally bloom. Choose artificial blooming tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, or assorted colored pansies to welcome spring. Summertime brings daisies, lilies, snapdragons and miniature roses. In the autumn, change your artificial flowers to chrysanthemums and autumn leaves, and as winter approaches, bright branches of evergreen, berries, and poinsettias keep your window box cheery.

Location

You may have, or want to have, a window box at a location on your home that is not easily accessible, like a second or third story window or a window that has thick shrubbery in front. These difficult window box locations are perfect for filling with artificial flowers because you will only need to get to the window box once, but it will look fresh and alive for several years. You may wish to create your window box from the inside, through the window. Artificial flowers will make the task easy and you will avoid the mess that live plants will create in your interior.

Convenience

In today's busy world, maintaining a floral window box with live plants can take a lot of time and effort. deadheading the flowers, pruning dead foliage, replacing spent plants, fertilizing, watering, and pest control must constantly be done. Artificial flowers, with their lifelike realism, is an ideal solution for perfect looking, continually blooming window box displays. Artificial flowers allow you to "grow" flowers that you may not be able to if you planted live plants, like plants that require full sun in a window box on the shady side of your home. Additionally, using artificial flowers saves on water in areas that have water restriction.

Methods

When you create your window box with artificial flowers, you will need to first hot glue bricks of floral foam into the bottom of the window box. The foam will keep your artificial flowers in place and upright. Cover the foam with a layer of Spanish moss before beginning inserting the flower stems. If your window box is a wire or wrought-iron open type, begin by lining the window box with artificial moss before gluing in the floral foam, so the foam will not be visible. After the foam and moss is in place, you may begin designing and creating your window box with artificial flowers, greenery and cascading vines.
