Vinyl Fence Types

Vinyl coated fence, like this one, is just one of the many types of vinyl fencing.

Whether you're thinking of putting a new fence in your yard or you have an old farm fence that's looking a little worse for wear, a vinyl fence can enclose your space and add curb appeal to your property. Although vinyl fence quality varies, you can find a number of high quality vinyl fences on the market. Vinyl fence requires no regular maintenance after it's installed, unlike wood fences, which need yearly maintenance. A vinyl fence will cost you about twice as much as a wood fence in the beginning. Does this Spark an idea?

Residential

Vinyl residential fences come in a wide variety of designs, including privacy fences, picket fences and ornamental fences, such as wrought iron lookalike models. Although many residential vinyl fences are only available in a few colors, such as white, tan, gray, clay and almond, some manufacturers provide a wider selection of neutral colors, like Colonial white or a shade of ivory. You can purchase a vinyl residential fence from a specialty manufacturer or from your local home improvement store.

Agricultural

Many vinyl fencing manufacturers started out making vinyl agricultural fences before getting into the residential market, and a number of agricultural vinyl fence options are available today. You can purchase a historic-looking split rail fence in vinyl, which looks like the ones created from logs by pioneers, or go with the more modern post and rail fence, which features flat board rails. Vinyl agricultural fences are available in a wide range of neutral colors, including white and tan. Depending on where you live, you may be able to pick up a style of vinyl agricultural fence at your local home improvement store, but chances are, you'll have to go to a specialty store.

Vinyl-Coated

If you're looking for a more inexpensive option but you still want the durability of vinyl, think about using a vinyl-coated fence. Typically used for industrial or residential applications, vinyl-coated fences usually have a steel core with a vinyl sheath covering. Fences are available with varying gauges of wire fence to suit your needs. Vinyl-coated fences offer a wider color selection than other vinyl options, featuring colors like black and hunter green as well as the standard neutrals. You can purchase vinyl-coated fence from a private retailer or your local home improvement store.
