Obtain A Basic Ekg Interpretation Certification

Medical staff can take classes to receive basic EKG interpretation certification.

Medical staff from RNs, LPNs, EKG technicians, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants can learn basic EKG interpretation certification. Such training allows the medical staff to perform tests on patients to monitor the heart's electrical impulses using electrocardiogram machines. Understanding and recording such information helps physician's diagnosis in the treatment of cardiac irregularities.

Basic EKG interpretation certification classes range from online coursework or classroom study and 1-day sessions to 15 day meetings, with varying fees from $200 for RNs and LPNs to $1000 for EKG technicians. Coursework is based upon which medical department the health-care staff works in.

Instructions

1. Learn basic knowledge in monitoring heart rate, common dysrhythmia (arrhythmia) and rhythm. Interpret EKG strips---wave form interpretation---on the electrocardiogram charts. Recognize the signs concerning non-threatening to dangerous or potentially life-threatening conditions.

2. Interpret symptoms of hemodynamic instability in relation to dysrhythmias. Be able to list the mechanisms where dysrhythmias appear and recognize basic arrhythmias.

3. Attend lecture sessions covering basic EKG interpretation concerning the relationship between mechanical and electrical contractions. Learn set up leads for 12-lead placement and telemetry, determine normal sinus rhythm and heart rate, and learn about the heart's conduction pathway.
