Dewalt 12v battery pack

dewalt 12v Battery Pack

My 2 battery packs for my dewalt cordless drill have died. Looking at the cost of new packs, it almost seems it's better to just get a new drill. I have looked into rebuilding them with new cells. Doesn't look hard at all. My qustion tho is I have a 12v pack and inside are 9 unmarked cells. All the replacement batteries are 1.2v each. I do not believe a 10th will fit in the housing. Are these 1.5v cells in the Dewalt packs or are they just under voltaged. I looked for 1.5v sub c batteries and couldn't find any. I doubt you will have a viable battery once you spend the 6 hours necessary to rebuild it. I note HD has their 18v batteries in a two pack for $99 this week. Not a bad deal. I need two myself. I believe the 12v may be even cheaper. Be sure to recycle the old ones. Originally Posted by chandler I doubt you will have a viable battery once you spend the 6 hours necessary to rebuild it. Why not? You can search on the web and their are many, many web sites explaining how. It looks to me no more than an hour's work. BTW, I found where they put the 10th battery. I can get the 10 cells for $23. They also have more hours than Dewalts. I guess I'll take my chances. I attempted to rebuild a battery pack and did not have very good luck. While I was able to get a usable battery the solder joints were very sloppy hard to get to stick. The pro re-builders use a small spot welder. The battery then failed after about a year. I just picked up 2 new 12 volt XRP DeWalt batteries for $80 on eBay. Originally Posted by Tolyn Ironhand I attempted to rebuild a battery pack and did not have very good luck. They have tabs welded on with wire crimps and I solder stuff for a living, so I guess I'll try it out. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the advice. check the net for reviving nicad batteries it has worked for me
