Apply Curtain Rods To A Ceiling For A Canopy

One way to make a canopy over a bed, without the bed having an actual canopy, is to hang curtain rods from the ceiling. A canopy is a creative and romantic way to enclose a bed. Hanging curtain rods from the ceiling to create the canopy works well in an adult or a child's room. Create a fairy tale room for your little princess or add to an elegant d cor in your own bedroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide where you want to place the bed. If you decide to put it in a corner, position it out from the corner about a foot to allow enough room for the curtain rod canopy.

2. Measure the length and width of the bed. Add 8 inches to both measurements to get the length and width measurements for the canopy. The extra 8 inches allows for the flow of the canopy fabric without interfering with your sleep.

3. Mark out these measurements on the ceiling. Use a chalk snap line to make sure the lines are straight. This will help when hanging eye hooks.

4. Put the chalk marks for the curtain rods on the sides of the canopy out 1 inch farther than the top and bottom measurements. This leaves space for the decorative ends of the rods. Leave a little more space, depending on the size of the knobs at the end of the rods.

5. Make marks where the eye hooks will go, using a pencil. These should be at the ends of the curtain rods, but measure again to make sure.

6. Screw eye hooks into the marks on the ceiling at the four corners of the canopy.

7. Untwist the knobs from the ends of the curtain rods. Thread them through the eye hooks to make sure that you have enough space for the knobs to hang freely.

8. Remove the curtain rods and thread the canopy curtains on them. Re-hang the rods to complete the canopy.
