Side Effects Of Arnica Montana

Arnica montana is a flowering plant that is used as a non-medicinal remedy for pain and bruising. Other uses include reducing swelling and alleviating joint pain. It is used topically, and studies have shown it is quite safe when used for two weeks or less in homeopathic doses, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. However, prolonged use or taking too much can cause serious problems. It is best to consult a professional before using arnica montana.

Stomach Trouble

Stomach pain is sometimes experienced by people using arnica montana, especially when taken at high dosages. Nausea and vomiting are also sometimes experienced after using too much.

Heart Trouble

Some people taking high dosages of arnica montana experience irregular or rapid heartbeat or high blood pressure. Too much over a long period of time can lead to heart failure.

Organ Failure

If the dosage is too high, arnica montana can cause kidney and liver trouble that can cause those organs to begin to fail.

Skin Trouble

Some people taking arnica montana report that eczema, rashes and lesions are side effects. This is typically the result of an allergic reaction.

Bleeding

Arnica montana can increase the likelihood of experiencing severe bleeding. People with diabetes or who have taken anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs should never use it without first consulting a doctor.
