Put A Snow Plow Onto My John Deere Lawn Mower

Many John Deere lawn tractors have built in equipment that allows the attachment of a snowplow. Although John Deere refers to their snowplow as a snow blade, the equipment is essentially the same as the kind of snow plow that is usually attached to larger trucks. The main difference is the size. A snow blade is much smaller than a traditional snowplow. Once you purchase the snow blade that will fit on your specific John Deere lawn tractor, you will find that the installation process is straightforward to complete.

Instructions

1. Locate the mounting holes on the front frame of your John Deere. You can use the mounting holes on the brackets to locate the correct holes. Line the holes on the bracket with the holes on the frame. Bolt the brackets to the frame with the supplied bolts nuts and with your socket set. In some cases, the front bumper on the John Deere will interfere with the mounting of the brackets. If this is the case, remove the bolts that secure the bumper to the front of the frame with your socket wrench set and place the bumper off to the side.

2. Lower the John Deere mower deck's PTO lever to its highest position, Place a wooden block under each side of the deck and then lower the deck onto the blocks. Remove the pins that hold the mower deck's suspension rods to the lift rods and then slide the mower deck forward. Take the drive belt off the PTO pulley mounted under the engine and then remove the mower deck from the mower. Place the deck in a safe dry place for the winter.

3. Install the weights that came with the snow blade to the back of the John Deere mower. The weights fit onto a bracket already installed. You must install the weights to counteract the weight of the snow blade.

4. Place the pivot support against the brackets and line up the mounting holes on the pivot support with the holes on the brackets. Secure the support to the bracket with the clevis pins and cotter pins supplied with the snow blade.

5. Place the snow blade against the pivot support and line up the mounting holes on the blade with the mounting holes on the pivot support. Secure the blade to the support with the supplied nuts, bolts and your socket wrench set.

6. Locate the push channel assembly. This is the bracket that was pre-mounted to the back of the snow blade. It bolts to the pivot support. Slide the lift handle into the round hole on the top of the push channel assembly. Secure the handle with the clevis pin and cotter pin supplied with the snow blade.

7. Slide the pivot rods into the holes located at each end of the pivot shaft, which mounts to the pivot support. Slide the other ends of the rods into the holes located on the lift handle. Secure the rods with the supplied hardware.
